Cote d’Ivoire is an independent republic, with a democratic government, which lies on the Gulf of Guinea and forms part of the West African region.

However, although Yamoussoukro has been the official capital since 1983, Abidjan remains the commercial and administrative center. Other major towns are Bouaké, Korogho and Daloa and the ports of Sassandra, San pedro, and Tabou.

  • Yamoussoukro

In 1983, Yamoussoukro was designated as the nation's capital, but most government offices and foreign embassies are still in Abidjan. It has, according to the authorities of the country in 2006, 5,068,858 residents in the metropolitan area and 3,796,677 residents in the municipality. 

  • Abidjan

The commercial and administrative center

Abidjan is characterized by high industrialization and urbanization. Major industries include food processing, lumber, automobile manufacturing, and the manufacture of textiles, chemicals, and soap.

  • Bouaké 

is the second largest city in Côte d'Ivoire, with a population of 536,189 (2014 census). It is the main urban settlement of the Bouaké Department in the Gbèkè Region.

  • Grand-Bassam

 Located at the east of Abidjan. It was the French colonial capital city from 1893 to 1896. The city remained a key seaport until the growth of Abidjan from the 1930s. The city’s large sections have been abandoned for decades.

  • San Pedro

is a city in southwestern Côte d’Ivoire. the city is home to the second  largest port of Côte d'Ivoire: The Port of San-Pédro.
